An Interview with Torki Farahat

Torki Farahat

Tell us a bit about yourself? 

Torki farhat has over 9years of experience in working with community and youth. Currently, Torki is the chairperson of Sudanese assembly of youth foundation -SAY foundation. He took it upon his shoulder so that through this organization he can change the negative approach and attitude that is held by youth towards their future and their community, and support them in different ways for a brighter and better future. He has been the regional coordinator assistant for Africa of Human Rights and peace committee in the international federation of medical student association , a certified trainer and holder of NGO management diploma , African ledership network member and he is an expert in fundraising , leadership and recruitment,torki was chosen form 100,0000 african to attend Washington fellowship for young African leaders -YALI by president Barack Obama, Also torki is a doctor who is working on attaining his health management and hospital administration master

Tell us about your early school days?

I started my early school years in Saudi Arabia, then I moved to Sudan where I finished my high school at African council privet school.

How many brothers and sisters did you have, how did this impact and effect you?

Well, I was born and raised in a big family consists of 11 siblings . 8 sisters and 3 brothers… They have great impact on me because I’m the youngest son of in the family. But my biggest supporter was my father who has guided me in my early stages to be where I’m now.

Where did you go to university and what did you study and why?

I went to national Ribat University at 2006 and I graduated in 2012.. I belong to a medical family where most of my sister are doctors but from my point of view their is enough in hospitals and operation rooms ,but very few community medicine  and health management specialists. that’s why I have chosen to study medicine and specialise in Health management and hospital administration.

What do you feel is your greatest achievement to date? 

SAY foundation

What does being Sudanese mean to you?

Proud – intellengece – peace – positivity

What do you rate as success and how do you define it?

In my opinion success is the person ability to identify problems and innovative a sustainable solutions for them. And the maximum success is achieved by knowing your weaknesses and changing them to build a better future.

Who would you say is the most influential Sudanese?

There is no specific name, as in the past 10 years I have met alot of Sudanese men and women inside and outside Sudan . They all left a positive impact on their societies.

Who would you say is the most successful Sudanese?

Every Sudanese youth is capable of changing him/her self , society and nation.

What is your favourite quote?

“Something in this world belongs to you, so get up ”
